Conduits Technologies, Inc. Announces Pocket Player 2.0 for Pocket PC
TAMPA, Florida -July 1, 2003 - Conduits Technologies, Inc., announced today the
release of Pocket Player 2.0, an alternative music player for Pocket PC,
supporting the latest media player standards and formats. Pocket Player aims
to satisfy the Pocket PC customers who demand more from a media player. Pocket
Player runs on all ARM-based Pocket PC devices, such as the Pocket PC 2000,
Pocket PC 2002, and Windows Mobile 2003 Software for Pocket PC.
The Pocket Player interface is suited for the use of one-handed operation of the
device, stylus use, or thumb and finger use of the device. Newly designed
oversized buttons make the application easier to manage and navigate. Support
for Pocket Player specialized skins, as well as other common skin formats,
ensure that the application's onscreen visual representation can be tailored to
each user's individual tastes.
Support for multiple media formats is one of the defining qualities of Pocket
Player. Playback of common audio formats such as MP3 and WMA are supported, as
are WAV files that the user has recorded with the built-in Pocket PC Voice
Recorder. Playback of Ogg Vorbis files is also supported; Ogg Vorbis is a free,
open format that is gaining in popularity due to an increased user base,
software and hardware support.
Pocket Player boasts myriad playback features: the user can play files that are
stored locally on Windows Mobile software for Pocket PCs, in RAM or on a memory
card. The wireless connectivity features of Windows Mobile software for Pocket
PCs permit Pocket Player to stream audio files over HTTP connections, and
Internet radio stations are supported. In addition, streaming audio files over
the user's local network is supported. Advanced audio features such as gapless
playback, or track crossfading are also part of Pocket Player's feature set.
A ten-band audio equalizer and preamplifier control is supported for MP3 and Ogg
Vorbis media formats. By using these controls (or the 12 included presets), the
user can customize the sound for playback on headphones, car stereos, any other
speaker setting, or to adjust to the genre of the music being played. Support
for bookmarked files, and track positions are supported in Pocket Player, which
are generally used by listeners of audio books.
The ease of playlist management is another key feature of Pocket Player. Users
can access all the media on their device by using the "Local Content" playlist,
which is updated whenever a storage card is inserted or removed, or when files
are copied to the device. An integrated playlist manager keeps track of all the
playlists on the device, so users do not have to hunt for their playlist files.
Advanced sorting features, such as sorting by artist or song title are supported,
as is the randomization of the playlist. Pocket Player supports nearly every
known playlist type (M3U, PLS, ASX, PLT, and LST), allowing users to access their
existing playlists with Pocket Player.
Common features to other media players are also integrated, such as mapping hardware
buttons to playback controls, and shutting off the device display after a specified
amount of time, to save battery life. Track seeking is also supported, and enhanced
for audio book users. Through the use of the Seek Menu, a user can resume playing a
track where it was left off, or jump a specified amount backwards or forwards in a
track.
